A CASE REPORT OF HUMAN CAUDAL APPENDAGE(HUMAN TAIL)

Abstract
The human caudal appendage or "human tail" is arisen from any portion of the lumbosacrococcygeal midline and it is a relatively rare anatomical curiosity.
The frequency of their occurrence is not known.
Some have been associated with spina bifida occulta or meningocele, and a few have been associated with neoplastic or ectopic histological elements. So this has been recognized by physical examination, intravenous pyelogram, and X-ray studies. Various degrees of neurological symptoms, such as motor or sensory weakness, paresthesia, paraplegia, bowel or urinary incontinence, and developmental deformities of the vertebral column and lower extremities may appear in the early life of the patient. The X-ray examination is directed to whether it has a bone or cartilage and bony defect of the lumbosacral vertebral column.
The first neonate, aged 14 days, was born by Caesarean section delivery after normal pregnancy with a sacrococcygeal appendage measuring about 5 cm in length.
This paper reviews the literature, reports our cases, and describes our experience.
